Spring Time Dream Time!!!

Spring time is here and Summer is just around the corner! In Texas, that sweet Spring weather doesn't last long so I definetly have swim/beachwear on the mind. I am really loving the suits for this Summer but suits for 2013 are really exciting.

The swimwear for 2013 is drapey and interesting. There is more variety and more options for modest one peices and tankinis. The colors are bright and feminine. There is more of an emphasis on creating a shape with the swimsuit to make them easier to wear while being flatering to a larger variety of body types.
And the colors are fabulous!!! I DO NOT want to see anyone in a black suit this summer!

My Life in Pieces (of fabric)

So, what is going on in my studio these days? Right now I am working on a garment for competition. I am making a gown and it is my first floor length dress so I am really excited!

I prefer to work at home, mostly in my room. This is my sweet little Singer. She has lasted me 2 years now with no complaints. She's a good girl.
This is the back part of my skirt. Obviously not finished yet.
These are all of my pattern pieces! seeing them all laid out is a little overwhelming! You would think I would be used to this sight by now :)
And, yes this is what my room looks like when I am working on a project. Sadly, whenever I work on a project fashion or not, my room becomes a victim of neglect. This is disgusting I know, I wonder if Merry Maids would come out to do just my room?

FASHION 2012

Hi everyone! This post is all about me! Just kidding (well it kind of is) these are too storyboards designed by me for summer and fall 2012. I need your feed back on you favorite one! Please, please comment!

This story board is all about color blocking (one of my absolutely favorite trends!) I wanted to bring lots of color back into fall, even some colors that may be thought of as exclusively summer colors. Colors, cuffs and structured silhouettes are the foundation for this line.
In this story board I wanted to create no fuss summer wear. Simple, fun and really colorful fashion. I love dresses and tops that have a lot going on so it looks like you put quite a bit of thought into the outfit but you really spent no time at all. I like the matchy-match look, with short/skirts and tops in the same color and accessories in a similar hue.

Fashion Breathing Dragons

So, last year I got an issue of W Magazine in the mail and as I flipped through the pages and found awesome pictures of this girl I had never seen and a movie I had never heard of. The actress in these pictures was Ronney Mara dressed as her character Lisbeth Salander from movie (it was a book first), The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
I'll be honhest, I can't see the movie it is too intense! I ma beginning to really love black and I think that the wardrobe in this movie will inspire women to be more brave and daring with their clothes and style.
The wardrobe designer for the movie, Trish Summerville has come out with a line for H&M inspired by the costume in the film.

THE BILL CUNINGHAM PROJECT
After seeing a documentary on Bill Cuningham, (fashion photographer for the New York Times) I set out on my own adventure to find ladies with quirky, fun and trendy fashion. At first, I was kind of nervous, I mean how does Bill do it?! I started at the good ol' Golden Triangle Mall and found a few outfits that really caught my eye.
I absolutely love Native American prints and patterns. I was talking to this woman and she said that she got her coat at a thrift store and apparently it is vintage. Her pairing the coat with cute fringe booties really gave her look that awesome boho feel.
This little lady was so excited when I asked to take her picture! My favorite thing about her outfit is the thick black tights with black booties. It makes her feet and legs look seamless, as if there is no separation between top and bottom.
This shirt is so cool. I love black and white stripes and I cannot get enough! I know it is a huge trend right now but I can never find it! The pattern on this shirt is kind of an optical illusion. I love mixing big and small stripes to create this curve in the middle of the top which is, FYI very flattering on an athletic shape.
This outfit I like to describe as a "battle of the sexes" outfit. I love the paring of men wear inspired top with fun and flirty skirts or shorts. My lovely model is wearing a flow-y skirt and hiking boots making this outfit functional and interesting.
I LOVE THESE PANTS! I was talking to the woman in the picture and she affectionately called them her "diaper pants." Well, I don't know about that but i love the asymmetrical waistband and I adore the pale pink color. I also like that she has gone monochrome with this outfit, letting solid pink in the pants bring out the pinks and reds in the floral top.
These shoes in my humble opinion are the bomb.com. They almost look they are made from the material basketball sneakers are made. While they are very chunky platforms, the line that the off-white top makes the "sneaker-wedges" look sleek.
This is one of my favorite trends for the ladies who are brave enough to do the shaved head! It defies conventional beauty and its is definitely shocking.
I adore fur. I don't really condone the use of real fur but this coat was a hand me down from the model's grandmother so its okay that it is real. It is so beautiful. I love that it is shapeless. It looks like she is drowning in luxury.

What Inspires ME.

Many things inspire me like music, movies, books and places but the something (rather someones) that always seam to inspire me is people. I love watching people, the way different persons walk, talk and look absolutely fascinate me. I love sitting in a public place (not like a creep or anything) and people watching. It is inspiring to see what people wear and how they do their hair. The different way men walk and the different way women move their hand while they are talking.

I guess my fascination with people may come from living such a sheltered life. I grew up in a smallish town where everything was pretty "normal." The mnajority of the boys dressed alike in the standard khaki shorts and polo and the girls wore the uniform of Abercrombie & Fitch. So when I saw folks that stood out in a crowd, I could not stop staring and think about them. That is also what sparked my love for fashion. The fact that you can design whatever you want and wear whatever you want and that there are virtually no rules about it was and is more than appetizing.
